His Kingdom will have no end

If you look through history books you will see that most countries were ruled by royalty of one sort or another. In many cases, kings and queens ruled by ‘divine right’. They all assumed their reign would never end.

Today we celebrate the Feast of Christ the King. The Kingdom of God is not based on power, wealth, prestige. God’s Kingdom is based on love, mercy, service, justice and reconciliation. Jesus is a King but he does not and cannot make us follow him. He calls us by our name and invites us to follow him freely out of love because we wish to do so.

Jesus is taunted by different groups while on the cross. Surely Christ who raised the dead, healed the sick was capable of saving himself. But he does not do so. His Kingship is not about self-preservation. His ministry was marked by healing and forgiveness. He came to serve, not to be served.
